Family Therapy for Adolescent Eating Disorders in Pennsylvania
Family Therapy for Adolescent Eating Disorders in Pennsylvania
At Blue Ridge, we know the family's role in the treatment of eating disorders is vital to recovery. Additionally, research shows that rates of recovery are significantly higher for clients whose families participate in the treatment process. We view each client’s eating disordered behavior as holistic instead of individual, so we make it important to not place blame but to identify contributing factors to the development of the eating disorder, process them, and look for opportunities for change.
Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)
Rooted in a deep and unwavering belief in the healing power of families and systems, the essence of EFFT is to afford caregivers and significant others a significant role in supporting their loved one’s mental health and well-being.
Principles of EFFT:
Emotion Coaching: An opportunity to teach caregivers how to best support their daughter in expressing her thoughts and emotions. EFFT also teaches caregivers how to manage their own emotions, which can help foster an environment of support for their child.
Behavior Coaching: Encourages caregivers to support their loved one by interrupting eating disorder behaviors or symptoms by working through obstacles and fears that may surface.
Relationship Repair: Empowers caregivers to cultivate healing, processing, and eating disorder recovery.
